I'm getting fonder and fonder of http://www.Tor.com :D
Not only do they have a splendid array of extracts and excellent short fiction freely available to read on their website but also an array of interesting blog articles like this one

Recently finished 'Black Opera.' I found it a very good read, lots of twists and turns. And more Bel Canto opera than you could wave a baton at, all of which was relevant to the plot. Highly recommended.
