If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's not a movie I've seen, but I gather it seems to have followed the tried & tested Hollywood method of adapting a book and ending up something completely unlike the book. (Which may be a little unfair since I haven't actually seen the movie myself, but that's the vibe I've been getting.)

And after all that, yes, there is an 'M.'
