Armadacon 26 Charity Auction.

Whilst rummaging around the internet, I spotted this:

The Charity Auction is moving to the Sunday. We are trying it out to see if it makes more room on the programme.

Suffice to say. I'm not best pleased. There are a number of reasons.

1: Originally, the Charity Auction was held on a Sunday (Just before the Closing Ceremony). There had to be a good reason for changing the auction to a Saturday. What was that reason (The first auction held on a Saturday was at Armadacon VI)?

2: Considering that the £5 day ticket was introduced last year. The people who attended last year will now be excluded from the auction this year (due to the day change).

3: A 2 hour time slot is a 2 hour time slot. The day that the 2 hour time slot occupies is irrelevant. By shifting the 2 hour event from Saturday to a Sunday does not free up an extra hour on a Saturday.

4: At this time, Armadacon is 1 guest short. How does moving the Charity Auction help? Logic would suggest extending the auction to 3 hours to fill the program gap and raise even more money for charity.

5: Who is honestly going to put money aside for the auction? The earlier you have the auction, the more money you are likely to take. The possibility of people spending money on the Saturday will increase (on booze and shopping) if the opportunity to spend it on good causes decreases?

I an hopeful that the Committee will reconsider this decision and put the Charity Auction back on the Saturday where it belongs.

Hello Barry

There are a number of reasons why the auction has been moved.

A primary one is the fact that Andrew Cartmel is only with us Saturday afternoon/early evening.
Plus he has told us he is going to do certain things for us; more than just the usual panel. This has meant we have had to move things around in order to accommodate this.

In addition, the Tea Duelling has been moved to Saturday; partly so that as many people as would like to can get involved.
It is also thought that some of the younger people like steampunk and this will introduce them/given them close up experience of Tea Duelling
As the Tea Duelling this year is not just an exhibition match; we are offering people a chance to get involved this time too

The £5 ticket is going to be availiable on Sunday as well as Saturday; so people will be able to attend the auction, on a £5 ticket

At the end of the day, if it doesn't work being on Sunday; then it can be moved back to Saturday for next year

Thanks Liz. That's what I call a detailed explanation, which is far better than a vague original. As is often the case, a lack of information is often the cause of problems.
